Y10 students complete their Bronze DofE Qualifying Expeditions

Back to back Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions at the end of the Spring term brought standout performances and 100 successful completions for Y10 participants – congratulations! Students and staff basked in four days of dry and predominantly sunny weather, a big relief when conditions on either side were far from ideal!

Teams started their walking adventures in Ivinghoe on the green, then undertook 10 miles through local countryside and villages on various routes to Leighton Buzzard for camping on the school field. Overnight temperatures dropped considerably, with expedition one participants waking to frost, but this did not deter them. On both expeditions, tents were taken down efficiently and kit packed up in great time to embark on circuit walks around Wing and surrounding areas, completing a second day of mileage well into double figures.

Team members should be commended for their determination and resilience; digging deep when it counted, working diligently together on navigation and decision-making, and overcoming many challenges (including the whole experience without access to personal mobile phones!). Participants reflected on the freedom they enjoyed and the satisfaction they felt from being largely self-sufficient, while spending their time in the outdoor environment.

Well done everyone and a big thank you to the wonderful team of staff volunteers – such big events could not happen without your input.
