Dynasty do us proud at Battle of the Bands

Vandyke was brilliantly represented in the recent BLMK Music Hub ‘Battle of the Bands’ competition. Student band Dynasty, formed of Ewan (Y13), Fabio (Y13), Amy (Y11), Aidan (Y12) and Holly (Y13), share their experience below…

Dynasty got the chance to participate in the local BLMK Battle of the Bands this year. We attended the qualifying heats at Bedford Esquires, an awesome alternative venue, alongside the incredible band Blacklight, also from Vandyke, who played their beautifully written and very catchy original song, ‘Gossip’.

We chose to play our own funk-style original song, ‘Rhythm of the Soul’, as well as a cover of ‘Always on the Run’ by Lenny Kravitz and Slash. We enjoyed the performance immensely and we were very pleased that it took us through to the final.

The final was held at The Stables in Wavendon, a renowned venue that gave us an unforgettable experience on an amazingly fun stage. Not only did we enjoy playing a new cover of ‘Canned Heat’ by Jamiroquai, but we also had the amazing opportunity of getting to know the other young bands and creating a supportive network behind stage, sharing our very own dressing room with our good friends, Edith Dog, who went on to win the competition.

Having participated in this event for two consecutive years, watching others and the competition grow, we have gained a great deal of experience and are very excited to see more Vandyke bands get involved in the process in future.
