Sixth Form Enrichment
We offer a wide variety of meaningful activities designed to help prepare students for adult life. These activities are designed to develop confidence, character and resilience whilst rehearsing skills such as team working, communication, leadership and problem solving which are required for further study and employment.
Arts Factory
Support and / or take part in school productions. Mentor younger performers and help to run the Year 9 Drama Club.
Every Monday after school & rehearsals/performance time.
Debating Club
Regular debates on issues of importance e.g. moral, political issues.
Regular meetings and half-termly debates.
Duke of Edinburgh
Students can develop from Bronze and Silver awards to Gold.
Weekly after school sessions and weekend expeditions.
The Employability Project -“Shark Tank”
All students have the opportunity to work as a team on a work related project before presenting to industry experts.
One hour per fortnight.
Enrichment Assemblies
Students enjoy a fortnightly presentation either by a member of the Sixth Form Team or an external speaker, to help support their preparation for adult life – such as staying safe, personal finance, applying for university/apprenticeship/employment, preparing for interviews, gap years and healthy relationships.
One hour per fortnight.
Girls Activators
Sports leadership programme for Sixth Form students.
One hour per week.
Learning to Cook
Students are given guidance on how to prepare nutritious meals on a budget.
One hour per fortnight.
MENCAP Summer Camp
Students work as volunteers with children and young people with severe physical and/or learning difficulties. We are hoping this scheme will run in 2022.
Must attend training session and submit CRB form. 1-3 weeks in the summer holiday.
Peer Mentoring
Year 12 and 13 ‘subject experts’ provide subject support and guidance for students.
One hour per week.
PE
Students can opt to participate in sporting activities during enrichment. In addition, they are able to help the PE team with school sports clubs and fixtures.
After school on a Friday.
Reading Programme
Working with Year 9 and 10 students to improve their reading skills.
One hour per week.
Senior Student Team
Each year we select a senior student team, which is open to everyone. The Senior Student Team plans and organises events such as Smile Week and represent the school at Open Evenings and other events.
Regular meetings and a range of in-school events such as Open Evenings and Awards Evenings.
Smile Week
The Sixth Form runs this annual fund raising week and all Sixth Form tutor groups are involved. We have a long-term relationship with the charity “Smile Malawi” and orphanage in Malawi for children whose parents have died of AIDS.
Planning during tutor time, lunchtime meetings, and a week of intensive activities, which can be exhausting but exhilarating.
Summer Ball Committee
Working to plan and organise the Sixth Form Summer ball and raise money to subsidise it.
Lunchtime meeting once a fortnight, plus extra time selling tickets and fund raising.
Vandyke Volunteering
Supporting younger students with their work in the classroom or working with staff to create resources.
One to two hours per week.
Volunteering Week
This takes place in the summer term. You will have the opportunity to organise some work experience, shadowing or volunteering activity.
One week (35 hours).
World Challenge
An opportunity for a month long expedition in a developing country.
Time commitment varies. Weekly meetings building to evening and weekend planning sessions are not uncommon. Fund raising activities too.
YOPEY Dementia Befrienders
Volunteer in a local care home befriending residents who have dementia.
One hour per week.
