Vandyke students attend Gold DofE Ceremony at Buckingham Palace
Congratulations to our Gold Award achievers from the current Gold cohort and alumni who attended a truly wonderful celebration at Buckingham Palace Garden on Friday 9th May: Ben A, Jeannie B, Finley B-T, Rhys B, Sophie C, Rosie H, Kieran L, Alex L, Jack M, Emily P, Suryan S-V, Anya S and Evie W.
The sun shone and so did all of you as you experienced this prestigious event in the beautiful palace garden that was transformed into a festival-style celebration with satellite stages, giant deckchairs, games and activities to enjoy. Several thousand people soaked up the fun and listened to inspiring words delivered by Alex Scott, MBE, sports presenter and former professional footballer. Encouraging and interesting talks were also given by journalist Victoria Derbyshire, actor Larry Lamb and Strictly star Amy Dowden, MBE.
His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh congratulated all Award holders during a speech from the Palace’s West Terrace, before meeting individuals as he walked through the garden. Ben, Fin, Rhys and Emily were delighted to speak with him and share their expedition experiences.
Completing a Gold Award is no easy feat – it takes a tremendous amount of time, energy, determination and resilience to achieve. In the words of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, you should all be ”incredibly proud” and ”stand a few inches taller”.
