Y10 & Y11 geography students take a trip to Italy
The recent Y10 and Y11 geography trip to Italy was an opportunity to see some amazing physical and human landscapes in real life. Staying in the historic centre of the stunning coastal town of Sorrento we went out on various trips around the Bay of Naples.
Firstly, a snow covered Mount Vesuvius, where we hiked to the crater’s edge to witness the scale of its destructive power first-hand. This geological force was brought to life as we explored the remarkably preserved ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum, gaining a haunting insight into Roman life and volcanic impact.
Shifting from geology to coastal management, we took a ferry across the turquoise waters to the island of Capri, observing its famous limestone cliffs and sea caves. In Anacapri, many of the students found themselves taking part in a sports festival held for the local primary school!
The trip wasn’t all about physical geography though; we fully immersed ourselves in Italian culture by learning the art of authentic pizza-making and sampling the best gelato flavours the region had to offer. It was an unforgettable blend of spectacular scenery, ancient history… and lots of ice cream.
