Footballing success

Our Y9 and Y10 boys’ football teams have recently turned in excellent performances in cup competitions.

The Year 10 boys’ football ‘A’ team recently played Queen Elizabeth School in the quarter finals of the county cup. Vandyke dominated this game very early on and scored four goals within the first 20 minutes. It was a very professional performance and the team displayed great sportsmanship throughout. Special mentions to Leon D for scoring a worldie (whether he meant to remains to be seen!), Freddy H with some excellent passing and setting us on our way, and Charlie H, who moved the ball very well and dominated the midfield. Overall, it was a great performance from all and we are now into the semi-finals of the county cup!

And this week, the Year 9 boys’ football A team took on Goldington in the quarter finals of the County Cup. The boys have had a really good start to their footballing success at Vandyke by picking up a number of wins with only one loss this year in the National Cup.

The game vs Goldington started with a lot of possession held by Vandyke, with the opponents demonstrating robust defensive strategies which coped with a number of attacks down the left and right hand side. Goldington did manage to find a few chances by unforced errors which caused counter attacks into Vandyke’s box, but were quickly cleared up by some brilliant saves from James G, and some excellent defending from the back four. But by the 20th minute, Vandyke had scored two fantastic goals; one from George P off the post, and the other from Finley O with a solo run from the halfway line which was smashed high into the net.

Quickly into the second half, Vandyke managed to score three more to extend the lead, which included a chip from Rico S from 35 yards. Goldington did continue to cause problems for Vandyke’s defensive line with some excellent attacking play and a brilliant save from their number 1 which was tipped onto the bar. The boys will now face Lealands in the County Cup Semi Final, and we wish Goldington all the best in their remaining games this year.
