Silver DofE students smash their Qualifying Expedition

Congratulations to the 42 Year 11 students who passed their Silver Qualifying Expedition with flying colours! The cohort really has been a pleasure to work with and to witness them in action across the action-packed days was a joy.

Teams started their walking adventures at the southern end of pretty Rudyard Reservoir, then journeyed east towards another large body of water – Tittesworth Reservoir – to camp at The Hollies near Blackshaw Moor. Participants appreciated the sunshine and blue skies each day, but certainly needed to layer up at night to deal with the drop in temperature.

Day Two brought a great physical challenge – going up and over the Roaches, and teams were subsequently rewarded for their efforts with incredible views from the top! Team spirits were therefore high on completion of day 2 at Gradbach Campsite, which provided a beautiful setting for all to put their campcraft skills into practice again, and further enjoy being out in a natural environment.

Team members continued to support each other on Day Three whilst undertaking more undulating terrain. They demonstrated sound navigation and map reading skills, which enabled teams to complete their journeys in Buxton, on tired legs but feeling highly satisfied with their performance. A well-deserved ice cream was enjoyed by all to celebrate a successful expedition!

Well done everyone and thank you, as always, to the staff team for overseeing operations – we couldn’t do it without you.
