Y12 Law students take part in mock trial
Earlier this month, two groups of keen sixth form law students took part in mock trials in the school theatre to test their advocacy skills. The trial scenario was based on a real life murder trial nicknamed the ‘Brighton Trunk Murders’, which took place in the 1930s.
Students took on various roles (and in some cases, wigs!) within the proceedings. These included – a judge to command and keep order of the trial; a defendant charged with murder; prosecution and defence barristers and solicitors; five witnesses including a Pathologist and a Detective Chief Inspector; and a jury of 12 to decide the verdict.
This was a fantastic opportunity for our law students to experience the workings of a court and gain a thorough understanding of the roles of the various participants in a real trial.
