A busy term for Public Services students

Our Public Services students enjoyed several trips and visits which enhanced their learning during last term. In November, students enjoyed a successful trip to Leighton Buzzard Fire Station. The visit began with a talk which covered areas such as shift work, challenges, personnel, skills, demands, lack of manpower for job and what stations have to do if they are short of firefighters. Following the talk, students had a tour of the station, looking at offices, the uniform room and then the fire engine itself. Thanks to all the team at Leighton Buzzard Fire station.

Travelling slightly further afield, students in the 10A Public Services class practiced their map reading and teamwork skills around Ivinghoe Beacon. The weather was kind, albeit a little cold, and students worked extremely well together to achieve all the tasks they were set.  Well done all.

And back in school, a Royal Navy sailor visited to speak to our students about the different roles in the Royal Navy and the training required to do each role. Many areas were covered, such as the equipment used, the importance of communication and teamwork and many of the working skills required for this role, and how these skills can be transferred to other jobs outside of the Royal Navy. Students found this especially valuable as they have been learning about the different groups and roles in the public services.
