
Qualification: BTEC Level 3 AAQ (Extended Certificate) in Information Technology

Course entry requirements: General BTEC requirements including English Language or English Literature and Maths at grade 4 or above. Although it is beneficial to have studied KS4 IT / Computer Science, it is not essential. However, if studied, students should have achieved at least a level 2 pass in IT or a grade 4 in Computer Science.
Course description
The BTEC Level 3 AAQ (Extended Certificate) in Information Technology (IT) is a popular course that allows students to study the way that IT is used across a range of businesses and industries. The course is designed for students who are interested in an introduction to the study of creating IT systems to manage and share information, alongside other fields of study.
This course consists of four mandatory units that are assessed in two different ways; examination and coursework. All units are externally set by the exam board. The exam units are also assessed by the exam board, whilst the coursework units are internally assessed.

Cyber security and Incident Management (Exam)
Website Development (Coursework)
Relational Database Development (Coursework)
Coursework
Two of the units will comprise of coursework, which will be completed in the classroom and at home.
Evidence for coursework is recorded in a variety of ways including multimedia products, podcasts, videos, web pages, reports, observations, witness statements and interactive presentations. Each is linked to specific topics and audiences.
It is vitally important to keep to all deadlines.
Examination
Both exam units are written papers. One will be sat in Y12 and one will be sat in Y13.
Post-18 Opportunities and Employment
Students completing their BTEC Level 3 AAQ (Extended Certificate) in Information Technology will be aiming towards higher education, higher level apprenticeships or direct employment in one of many different careers, for example:

- Multimedia
- Business Management
- Information Management for Business
- Games Authoring
- Business Computing
- Business Information Technology
- Computing
