U15 Netball squad put in strong performance at Beds county tournament
A huge congratulations to our U15 Netball squad for their success in the Bedfordshire county tournament. They worked hard from start to finish in the bitter cold conditions to come 2nd in the pool stages. We then made our way to the highly competitive cup, where students continued to demonstrate grit and resilience through fabulous play. Overall, the students came away in 5th out of 15 schools. A massive well done to all players and our star Y12 sports leader, Carys!
Sixth Form netball squad in county tournament
A huge congratulations to Vandyke’s Sixth Form netball squad, who came 5th in the U19 Bedford county tournament. From start to finish, the team worked so hard to keep securing goals, even in the most bitter conditions! Our defence was strong which constantly challenged our tough opposition, and our mid-court and attack was fast but measured, allowing the ball to successfully and consistently reach our shooters. Well done everyone!
Year 10 boys' football squad through to fourth round of National Cup
Vandyke recently hosted Wheatley Park School in the 3rd round of the National Cup. It was a competitive game with a lot of great attacking play on display. Vandyke went 2-0 down after a dominant display, but we showed great courage and determination to score almost instantly afterwards. We pushed on and used the momentum we built up and eventually won 4-2.
A few special mentions to Jacob W, Josh G, Freddie H and Charlie H for getting on the score sheet and a very professional performance from Freddy H assisting two goals and being the voice of the team. Overall, the boys did exceptionally well and are now into the 4th round of the national cup.
Y9 & Y10 Netball teams win district matches
Well done to our Y9 & Y10 Netballers who won both of their matches in the district fixture against Houstone. Your teamwork and dedication on the court was unmatched from start to finish. A special shout out to Carys (Y12), our umpiring superstar, who coached and supported the teams to victory. Bring on our next matches together over the next few weeks.
Y10 Boys' Football team through to 3rd round of English Schools Competition
Our Y10 ‘A’ football team travelled to Aylesbury for the 2nd round of the English Schools Competition. The boys did extremely well and showed great resilience after a shaky start. Everyone worked and played very hard, allowing us to come out victorious against Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School with the end result being 4-1.
A few special mentions to Charlie L for his dazzling dribbling skills, Jacob W for getting his first goal and Ollie M for some crunching challenges. Overall, the boys did very well and are now into the 3rd round!
Y11 Boys progress to third round of the National Cup
The Year 11 boys’ football team produced a spirited performance to seal their place in the third round of the National Cup, defeating a strong opponent 3–2 in a pulsating encounter.
The game didn’t start as planned for Vandyke Upper School, as the visitors struck first with an early goal against the run of play. But the setback only seemed to ignite Vandyke’s resilience. Vandyke soon found their rhythm, pressing high and moving the ball with confidence. Their persistence was rewarded when Owen B curled a stunning free kick into the top corner to level the score — a moment of real quality that lifted the entire team.
From there, Vandyke took control. Hayden R fired them ahead with a sharp finish after a flowing team move, before Billy N added a crucial third, slotting home coolly to make it 3–1. The boys looked dominant, dictating play and showing real composure in possession.
A late goal from the opposition set up a tense finish, but Vandyke’s defense — marshalled brilliantly by Omari, who was deservedly named Player of the Match — stood strong. His calm presence and leadership proved vital as the team saw out the final minutes to secure a memorable win.
