We had some of our Year 13 students and one Year 11 student compete in the Senior Mathematical Challenge recently. This is a national competition open to Year 13 students and below, it is a 60 minute, multiple-choice Challenge, designed to encourage mathematical reasoning, precision of thought, and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. The problems on the Intermediate Mathematical Challenge are intended to make students think.

We had a number of successful students, including Henry Phillips (pictured), who achieved the gold award and then progressed on to the Andrew Jobbing’s Kangaroo challenge where he achieved a Merit.

As well as the gold award, we had two students achieving the silver award:

George Phillips

Samuel Holden

Our congratulations go out to all those who took part in the challenge. This is an outstanding achievement as they were competing with Year 13s from across the country.
