Stanley reflects on his year as a St John Ambulance’s Lord Lieutenant Cadet
Huge congratulations to Y13 student Stanley, who has just completed a year as a St John Ambulance’s Lord Lieutenant Cadet. We asked Stanley to share his experiences with us…
“In August of 2024, I was selected as a St John Ambulance’s Lord Lieutenant Cadet for 2024/2025. After my commissioning ceremony, I carried out many duties throughout the year. These primarily involved accompanying HM Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Susan Lousada, or her deputies to events and engagements across the county.
Some of my favourite events included accompanying the Duke of Gloucester on a tour of the University of Bedfordshire, speaking at the Princess of Wales’ carol concert in Luton, and having the opportunity to meet local community advocates and volunteers at a garden party as part of Volunteers Week celebrations.
It was also an honour to be able to assist with the presentation of awards such as MBEs, and BEMs at an honours reception towards the end of 2024.
I’ve taken away a lot from my year as a Lord Lieutenant Cadet, however the best element of the year has without a doubt been meeting so many amazing people who do wonderful things in our local community – from volunteer first responders to community leaders and dedicated volunteers. I will certainly not forget the things they have spoken to me about, and I will forever be more grateful for the kindness and passion in our local community.”
