Sophie Jacques Awarded Arkwright Engineering Scholarship

Dec 15, 2020

Sixth Form student, Sophie Jacques, has been awarded the prestigious Arkwright Engineering Scholarship, sponsored by the Connolly Foundation.

A limited number of scholarships are made each year to students identified as potential leaders in engineering. Named after 18th century engineer Sir Richard Arkwright, the scholarship is awarded following a rigorous selection process and supports students through two years of advanced study.

This includes sponsorship by an engineering Company, university or professional body with opportunities for mentoring, work experience and career planning, as well as access to a series of events to provide insight into the different sectors of industry.

Sophie said “I’m grateful for the opportunity Vandyke has provided for me and the guidance throughout the whole process by my teachers.  I was in awe when I found out I was an Arkwright Scholar.  I couldn’t believe I was going to have a mentor”.

Vandyke’s STEM coordinator, Mr Bowes added “Congratulations to Sophie. This is a great opportunity and one that I know she will make the most of.”
