Smile Malawi Founder Visits Vandyke
Sixth Form students were delighted when Elspeth Baecke, the founder of Smile Malawi, a Charity that rescues vulnerable, orphaned children in Malawi and provides them with a home and education, revisited Vandyke School to give students an update on the work of the organisation.
Vandyke students have raised thousands of pounds in the last 15 years to support the charity and Elspeth was amazed and delighted again with this year’s total of £4,400. Elspeth explained that the money Vandyke students raised would go towards the cost of supporting the orphanage.
¨ £5 per month feeds a child.
¨ £10 per month pays for the staff care costs per child.
¨ £20 per month pays for the secondary education costs for each child aged 12-19.
This year the senior student team organised a number of fantastic events including cake sales, crossbar challenge, sponge the teacher and the week culminated with the now legendary ‘Vandyke’s Got Talent’. It was great to see staff and students having fun and working together, raising money for an important cause.
