Course entry requirements: General BTEC entry requirements including a grade 4 or above in English Language or English Literature and Maths.
Course description
The NHS employs 1.4 million people and Social Care 1.6 million people. Employment within Health and Social Care could involve working with a specific group of people such as adults, children, the elderly, families, those with mental ill health, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or alcohol or drug dependency.
Mandatory units: (All units must be completed)
Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development (Exam)
Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care (Exam)
Unit 6: Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs (Coursework)
Optional units: (One unit must be completed)
Unit 14: Physiological disorders and their care (Coursework)
Examination
Two of the mandatory units will be assessed through written examinations.
Coursework
Two units are coursework based and will be internally assessed. This will be completed during lessons and as homework.
Meeting deadlines is a vital part of the course.
Placements, Work Experience, Trips
Placements/work experience will be an optional part of the course. These will be within appropriate health and social care settings.
Health and Social Care trips are a compulsory part of the course. Costs will be kept to a minimum.
Guest Speakers
A variety of guest speakers will provide students with opportunities to learn about different careers within the health and social care sector.
Post-18 Opportunities and Employment
This qualification offers routes into many different careers. Some of these are:
