Enterprise and Entrepreneurship

Qualification: BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship

Course entry requirements: General BTEC entry requirements including a GCSE grade 5 in English Language or Literature and at least a grade 4 in Maths.

Course description

Students taking this qualification will study three mandatory units covering the following areas:

  • Enterprise and Entrepreneurs
  • Personal and Business Finance
  • Developing a Marketing Campaign

 

The final unit will be chosen from the following two options:

  • Entrepreneurship and Intrapreneurship in Practice
  • Social Enterprise
Examination

There are two exams, one for each of the externally assessed units. Exams can be taken in January and May. Retakes are allowed.

The Unit 2 exam is currently a 5hr exam set over two days. On the first day the exam is based on research, day one is 2hrs. On the second day is when you apply your research to the given case study. This part of the exam is 3hrs. This exam is completed on PC’s/Laptops.

Unit 3 exam is a two hour paper covering both personal and business finance.

Coursework

Unit 1 Enterprise and Entrepreneurs (Compulsory)

Unit 7 Social Enterprise (Optional)

Unit 8 Entrepreneurs and Intrapreneurship (Optional)

The above 3 units are all coursework based, we will be doing Unit 1 and one of the optional units. The coursework will be carried out both in workshop lessons and at home as homework.

Additional Course Information

There are opportunities for visits to local businesses to gain insights into staff motivation, loyalty, development and intrapreneurship.

Post-18 Opportunities and Employment

Students who complete this qualification alongside an A Level study programme can progress onto university. The qualification is worth UCAS points and therefore can be used towards the entry requirements for degree programmes.

As the course is a Level 3 BTEC course students could also progress onto Higher Apprenticeships in areas such as business administration, marketing, accounting, sales or enterprise.

The qualification will also give students the skills and knowledge needed to enter the self-employed market.
