Course entry requirements: General BTEC entry requirements; five subjects at grade 4 or above including English Language or English Literature and Maths
Course description
Working with children comes with its share of challenges, but you will inspire minds, shape young lives and support a child’s overall wellbeing.
Mandatory units:
Unit 1: Children’s Development (Exam)
Unit 2: Development of Children’s Communication, Literacy and Numeracy Skills (Set and marked by Pearson)
Unit 3: Play and Learning (Coursework)
Optional units: (One unit must be completed)
Unit 6: Children’s Physical Development, Care and Health Needs (Internally marked coursework)
Coursework
Two units will involve coursework which will be internally assessed.
It is vital you meet the task deadlines.
Additional Task
One unit will involve a task being set and marked by the exam board, Pearson.
Examination
One of the mandatory units will be examined.
Placement / Work Experience
As part of the course, there is a practical element which includes a placement within a suitable care setting. 50 hours placement/work experience is a compulsory part of the course.
Trips
Children’s Play, Learning and Development trips are a compulsory element of the course. Costs will be kept to a minimum.
Post-18 Opportunities and Employment
This qualification offers routes into many different careers. Some of these are:
- Nursing
- Social work
- Care assistant
- Early years practitioners
- Primary School Teacher
- Speech and Language Therapist
- Juvenile Justice Attorney
- Child Psychiatrist
