Sixth Form PE Students talk about careers with Andrew Johnson
The PE team continued their careers work when they welcomed Andrew Johnson to talk to Year 12 and 13 students about the life of an elite athlete and life after professional sport. The students had already had meetings with a CEO of a large physiotherapy group and have also had visits from MK Dons Set programme and UCFB Wembley who discussed their undergraduate programmes. Andrew was a professional football player who made some 400 league appearances, including over 150 Premier league caps for Crystal Palace, Everton and Fulham. In his illustrious career he represented England on 8 occasions. The Premier League’s top goal scorer of 2004/05 season discussed his trials and tribulations and how he has made his way since he left the professional game. Many of his successful traits that gave him success our students could relate to and he left all with a powerful message of how applying and dedicating yourself to any activity will reap huge rewards.
Team Leader of PE, Mr Turney, added, “Having guest speakers in the school of the calibre of Andrew is hugely inspiring and motivating for everyone. Andrew had exactly the right message of how you need to work as hard as you possibly can in order to give yourself the best chance of success.”
