Ollie Ashwell at the House of Commons
Year 10 student, Ollie Ashwell, went to the House of Commons on Friday 10th November, along with 350 Youth Parliament members aged 11-18 from across the nation. The event opened Parliament Week, a yearly initiative to build greater awareness, understanding and engagement with parliamentary democracy in the UK
Ollie represented Central Bedfordshire and Vandyke Upper School at the UK Youth Parliament to debate the major issues that really matter to young people across the UK.
The five issues that were debated were; a curriculum for life; public transport; work experience hubs for 11-18 year olds; lowering the voting age to 16 and protect LGBTQ+ young people. The debate was chaired by Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow.
Ollie had a fantastic day and an amazing experience which was also shown on BBC Parliament. Well done Ollie!
