Highly Commended – Leighton Linslade’s Schools Sport Partnership
Highly Commended recognition for Leighton Linslade’s Schools Sport Partnership
Last month, Leighton Linslade’s Schools Sport Partnership was Highly Commended at a national awards event, bringing prestigious national recognition to the scheme.
The Leighton Linslade Schools Sport Partnership is led by Vandyke Upper School’s Stewart Seymour. Stewart’s work in promoting girls’ football was among short-listed nominations and was announced as runner up at the Barclays Girls’ Football School Partnerships conference which took place at St George’s Park, home of England Football. The conference was hosted by BBC presenter Clare Balding.
Provision for girls’ football across the Leighton Linslade School Sport Partnership is well ahead of that found in other areas.
Stewart said, “The conference acknowledged the impact of the Lionesses’ successes at the 2022 Euros and this summer’s World Cup in generating interest in women’s football. We have seen this in our schools in terms of the excitement among girls and enthusiasm for playing the game. Our ambition is to build further on this in achieving equal access for girls to play football.”
