Duke of Edinburgh’s Training Walk
Very well done to 71 students in Year 10 who completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award training walk on Saturday 8th May. Along with 14 staff members, they braved wet and windy conditions with a positive approach and got stuck into the navigation and map reading.
Students completed circuit routes from Vandyke to either Rushmere Country Park or Wing and back, in teams of 6 or 7. Each team completed a very respectable distance of between 10 and 12 miles.
Highlights from the day included the orange team keeping spirits up by singing their way along the route, the light green team naming every animal they came across, including alpacas, ‘sin, cos, tan and angle (in the corner)”, and team purple running sections by the canal to build stamina for future cross-country events!
We were certainly impressed with everyone’s energy levels and very much look forward to building on skills and camping over the assessment weekend at the end of June.
