Year 9 Options Evening
6pm-8pm, Thursday 8th February 2024
Thank you to all Year 9 students and their parents/carers who joined us for our Year 9 Options Evening on Thursday 8th February. A copy of letter relating to the Options Evening can be found here. We hope the evening provided you with lots of information and guidance relating to the choices you are about to make regarding your GCSE subjects.
At present, the National Curriculum prescribes much of your timetable; however, you have now reached the point in your education where you are able to select some of the subjects you wish to study at GCSE level.
The choices that you make now are important and could affect your future opportunities including access to A-Level courses in the Sixth Form that will take you on to university. We advise you to choose a well-balanced programme of study at Key Stage 4 so that you can keep your options open for the future. This will give you greater choice as you go into post-16 courses or into work.
Making the right choices is not easy but with some thought and advice, the process is much more straightforward.
At the Options Evening, students were given a copy of the 2024 Options Booklet. Students who were unable to attend the event should now have received a copy of the booklet via their tutors. You can also download a copy of the booklet here. This booklet will provide you with information on all the various subject areas; use this booklet and talk to your parents/carers, teachers and others who can help you come to the right decisions about the next stage of your education. Research online and listen to the information given out in assemblies and lessons, and you will be able to make an informed decision for your future.
The Options booklet includes a pink Options form, which must be filled in and signed by you and your parents/carers before being returned to school. The deadline for returning your form is Friday 1st March. Spare copies of the form can be collected from the Year 9 office, if required.
Online subject consultations for Year 9 students will take place on Thursday 15th February. More information can be found in this letter.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions about the Options process or the choices you are making.
