Thank you to everyone who attended our Year 9 Options evening on Thursday 2nd February. We hope you found it helpful, and that you are feeling better prepared for choosing your GCSE options.
At present, the National Curriculum prescribes much of your timetable; however, you have now reached the point in your education where you are able to select some of the subjects you wish to study at GCSE level.
The choices that you make now are important and could affect your future opportunities including access to A-Level courses in the Sixth Form that will take you on to university. We advise you to choose a well-balanced programme of study at Key Stage 4 so that you can keep your options open for the future. This will give you greater choice as you go into post-16 courses or into work.
Making the right choices is not easy but with some thought and advice, the process is much more straightforward. The 2023 Options Booklet will provide you with information on all subject areas; use this booklet and talk to your parents/carers, teachers and others who can help you come to the right decisions about the next stage of your education. Research online and listen to the information given out in assemblies and lessons, and you will be able to make an informed decision for your future.
The 2023 Options Booklet contains an options form which allows you to indicate your choices. You can also download the form here. This form must be filled in and signed by you and your parents/carers before being returned to school. You can return the form to school reception, or scan/photograph the form and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org from your parents’/carers’ email address. The deadline for returning your form is Friday 24th February.
You will find further information about all the available subjects, the options process, and contact information for subject teachers in the 2023 Options Booklet. If you were unable to attend the Year 9 Options Evening, you can view the presentation slides here. Online subject consultations will take place on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th February.
Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any questions about the Options process or the choices you are making.
