Curriculum Intent
Art and Photography students at Vandyke Upper School develop awareness of and sensitivity towards individuals and world cultures through the study of various sources. Students are able to explore a range of techniques, materials, media and processes when making their work, and enjoy the act of making in creating their own responses.
The curriculum meets National Curriculum expectations through the recording of observations in sketchbooks, using a range of techniques and learning about styles and movements. This allows students to refer to previous tasks and methods of making as the course develops, using sketchbooks as a form of ‘revision’ later on when developing sustained projects and personal investigations.
Being able to personalise projects is a way of engaging different groups of students. Typically, female students focus on sketchbooks and presentation. Male students will take greater risks. Artists are more creative, photographers are more sequential and technical. PP students are supported with personal materials and equipment so that they are always able to engage.
