Building for the future at Vandyke
The new school building was handed over at the end of August. This was a school-managed project of £11.5m with a timetable for completion that was always tight. When the health pandemic arrived it seemed an impossible task for our contractors, Morgan Sindall. We had some anxious moments along the way but full marks for completing on time and on budget.
The building houses a superb new Sixth Form centre, 12 new Science labs and a suite of 10 dedicated Maths classrooms.
Staff and students are of course excited to be working in the new building already. I am especially impressed by the quality of finish. These will be lovely classrooms and learning spaces for years to come.
The handover was marked with a short event including the burial of a time capsule. Students chose the school lunch menu and some persuasive writing about living through Covid to include in the time capsule – to be opened in 2045!
