BRONZE DUKE OF EDINBURGH Training/Practice Expedition Weekend

Nov 02, 2021

Over 100 Year 10 students undertook their training/practice expedition over the weekend of the 9th/10th October 2021.

The students were exceptionally polite, enthusiastic and a real credit to themselves, their parents/carers and Vandyke Upper School.

The training was on Saturday and involved moving around eight stations which included the following: setting up tents, cooking on a Trangia stove, map-work skills, the countryside code, scenarios, first aid, expedition food, kit and how to pack a ruck-sack.

The students and staff camped on the school field in a total of 46 tents!  It was an amazing sight. On the Sunday the students walked some challenging routes covering a distance of 15 – 18km.

Many thanks to all the staff (16) and volunteers (3) including students (3) for helping out over the weekend, giving the students the opportunity to have an experience they will never forget.
