Before half term, 42 students travelled to Stockwood park for the South Bedfordshire District Athletics Competition. Students competed in up to 3 events with the aim of becoming South Bedfordshire champion and qualifying for the County Championships.

All students showed excellent resilience and determination in their events to gain points for Vandyke and showed great team spirit in supporting their peers. There were too many outstanding performances to mention, however recognition must go to the Year 9 girls’ team who came away as district champions.

From the District event, 15 students qualified to represent South Bedfordshire by finishing 1st or 2nd in their event. At the County Championships, were each student displayed excellent attitude, effort and supported each other so well. We had two 3rd place finishes from Henry E in the triple jump and Amelie B-H in the high jump, and Amy F came 2nd in the 100m, finishing in the same time as the 1st place athlete. Thaila M became triple county champion, for the 2nd year running, by comfortably winning the 80mh, Long jump and 200m.
