Pop star, Asher Knight, visits Vandyke

Asher Knight, who has just released his first single Hurricanes & Tornadoes, visited Vandyke on Thursday 22nd February as part of his anti-bullying tour of UK schools.

The 21-year old singer from Bradford performed in an extended assembly to Year 10 and included some of his own songs and covers of Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande tracks.  Asher interspersed the show with stories about his experiences of being bullied at school.

Asher said: “Bullying comes in many forms; physical, verbal and especially through social media. Through music, I found the courage to overcome bullying.  Now I want to share with others that they can also stand up to bullying by finding their own strength and resilience.”

The tour has played  to around 10,000 students in schools across the country. Asher is accompanied by a backing group of singers, Christie Alana, Luena Martinez and James C-C; the latter two also shared some of their experiences of being bullied at school and described how they were able to overcome their problems with the help of friends and supportive school staff.

Mrs Allsopp, who organised Asher’s visit to Vandyke, commented: “Using a musical performance to deliver an important message helps give the students a different view on it. I am sure they enjoyed the show and will hopefully take heed of the experiences of the performers going forward.”

Asher’s tour is run in partnership with the charity, Barnardos, and will continue around the country until Easter. Asher can be  followed on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook by searching for #Asherknightuk.
