Senior Citizens Have a Ball

Now a firm tradition in the Sixth Form calendar, the annual Senior Citizens’ Christmas Party took place on Thursday 14th December and, as ever, it proved a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for guests and organisers alike.

A team of volunteers from Years 12 and 13 welcomed over 35 pensioners from the local community – many of them now ‘regulars’ at the event, who gathered in the Sixth Form common room to enjoy a festive tea and entertainment.

The students had worked hard to provide a sumptuous spread for all the guests, including many homemade cakes and raffle prizes. The entertainment included a Christmas quiz, as well as carol singing, and some lovely solo turns by A level Commercial Music student Gemma Taylor, who was accompanied on the piano by A level Music, student Hannah Thomson. In between, members of the organising student team took time to sit at tables and chat to their guests, a gesture that seemed much appreciated

As they set off for home at the end of the afternoon, clutching their raffle prizes and cakes, there were big smiles and grateful thanks from all the senior citizens.
