Vandyke at The Palace!

Last week Vandyke went to the Palace!  As a registered centre for the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, Vandyke has been part of the award scheme's 60th anniversary, diamond celebrations.

Mrs Green, DoE Co-ordinator, and Mr Carroll were invited to a Buckingham Palace garden party to mark the anniversary and to see former Vandyke student Katy Pearce  receive her Gold Award.

Three members of the royal family made the presentations, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip, the Earl of Wessex, Prince  Edward, and Sophie, Countess of Wessex. The actress Anna Friel was host for Vandyke's group.

Mr Carroll said, "We were fortunate to enjoy a beautiful day of weather and the gardens were  a picture.  It was a lovely and  special occasion. We felt especially proud of Katy.   Vandyke is one of Central Bedfordshire's biggest DoE centres with over 100 students  participating at any one time.  This is down to students' enthusiasm for the scheme and Mrs Green's energy and organisational skills along with the great contribution of Miss Gibbs and other colleagues at school who give up so much time to make this work possible."
