Drama Masterclass

The beginning of May has been a very busy time in the Drama department.  A monologue masterclass was delivered to our Year 12 students by ex-student and professional actor Carly Halse. After leaving  Vandyke Carly completed a BA in Drama at Brunel University and went on to train at  the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama achieving an MA. Carly has been acting professionally since graduating.  She was one of the founding members  of OutHouse Collective, an associate company of The Roundhouse, Camden, and has also been lucky enough to work extensively with renowned performance artist Marisa Carnesky, most recently in the Time Out's Critics Choice, Tarot Drome, at the Old Vic Tunnels.

The Drama students had prepared well and Carly was very impressed with their work, she helped each student consider space, voice and physicality in their monologues which were successfully delivered to the examiner the following week.

The Year 10 Drama  students were treated to a professional workshop by West End performer Mike Southern from Stage-ed workshops. Mike provided an inspirational, innovative and energetic workshop allowing students to  access set Drama text "Blood Brothers", focussing on the "kids game" scene. Mike harnessed their enthusiasm working on vocal delivery and characterisation.

The Year 12 final performance, "Our Country's Good", was performed in The Drama Studio over two evenings. The incredible play by Timberlake Wertenbaker concentrates on the officers and convicts in the first convict colony in Botany Bay. The Year 12 students multi-roled and showed real  excellence in this production with outstanding audience  reviews.
