Three Cheers for Helen Mountford

More than 400 people gathered together in the Grove Theatre in Dunstable to celebrate the achievement of Central Bedfordshire’s volunteers at the first ‘Cheering Volunteering’ awards evening on 2nd June.

The awards were divided into six categories; Young Volunteer of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Unsung Hero of  the Year, Fundraiser of the Year and Outstanding Contribution to Volunteering.

Vandyke’s own, Helen Mountford was proud to be presented with the Young Volunteer of the Year award for the work that she does with the Leighton Buzzard Children’s Theatre.

Year 13 student, Helen has volunteered with the theatre for four years, spending every Saturday morning in term time, working with children aged four to thirteen, including one to one with children with special needs and those who need more support.  Helen also helps the theatre raise thousands  of pounds each year for various charities and is also volunteering for Mencap this summer… what’s more… she is also taking four A-levels!

The event was devised by Central Bedfordshire Council, working with the Volunteer Centres as part of Central Bedfordshire Together, to say thank you to those who give their time to help others.

Well done Helen!
