Engineering Education Scheme

On Friday 24th April 11 students from the Sixth Form attended the Engineering Education Scheme Presentation day at the University of Hertfordshire.  This was the end of a 7 month engineering project working closely with BE Aerospace in Leighton Buzzard.  The two teams were give the brief: ‘Find new and innovative ways to reduce weight in the economy class spectrum seat while still retaining its structural integrity.’

The student teams worked closely with two engineers from BE Aerospace, Stuart Bowers and Adam Johnson, to plan a solution to this brief. They used computer-aided design to produce accurate drawings of their airline seat and produced a formal report of their findings.

As part of the EES presentation day the students presented their solutions to a panel of engineers from top international engineering companies such as Airbus, BAE Systems and Centrica.  The student teams were also questioned by EES assessors and Crest Award examiners at their project stand.

The project was a huge success and all 11 students have passed the scheme, earned a Gold CREST award and have been invited to exhibit their projects at the National  Big Bang Fair in 2016, Well done!
