Maths Challenge UK

On 4th February, Vandyke hosted the UK Maths Trust Intermediate Challenge and welcomed students from all over the country to compete for these prestigious awards.

The UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT) is a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of young people in mathematics and to do this, they organise national mathematics competitions for 11-18 year olds, with up to 600,000 students from 4,000 schools competing annually.

The Intermediate Challenge is aimed at students in Year 11 and Vandyke, who have been competing nationally for more than ten years, were again proud to enter a strong team of our own.

The top 40% of students nationally receive a gold, silver or bronze certificate in the ratio 1:2:3 and each institution receives a ‘Best in School’ certificate.

This year Vandyke entered twenty students, the achievements of which are as follows; 1 Gold, 7 Silver and 6 Bronze certificates.

Gold - Ross Day (who will go on to compete in the next round!)

Silver - Jemma Siddle, Alex Aldous-Ball, Kieran Read, Laura Samet, Marc Childs, Alex Hewett, Oliver Chambers

Bronze - Jordan Philp, Jay Denniston, Zoe Bisby, Elliot Eykelbosch, Georgia Demopoulou, Jaynie Goodyear

Congratulations to all the students who took part.
