Design and Technology at Vandyke Upper School

The Design and Technology Department at Vandyke Upper School is housed in two purpose-built workshops each of which are fully equipped to teach the full range of design and make skills. We also have a small 15 station computer suite that is fully networked and has colour printing facilities for both A4 and A3. We are also equipped with 2 laser cutters which allow students to use new and modern materials in an exciting way.

We teach students in all years and offer a year 9 course which covers the areas of Wood, Metal and Plastics as well as a short program in Graphics. In Yr10 we offer a GCSE in Product Design which allows students to further their knowledge and understanding from Yr9 and gives the opportunity to work in all of the resistant material, Graphics and some electronics. In the sixth form we offer both AS and A2 in Product Design which is a preferred A level course of study for both Design and engineering careers.
