Art and design

While always encouraging creativity and imagination, our art teaching attempts to balance the need to learn about materials and techniques with the need to absorb the basic aesthetic principles of the subject.  At present our teaching has a strong Fine Art emphasis but we also produce 3D, photography, ICT work, printmaking and textiles.

The Art Department is generously equipped with excellent and extensive facilities. The main department centres on a large foyer which is used for temporary displays.  There are three bright, large open-plan and inter-connecting rooms together with a Sixth form studio, printmaking and project space, photography ICT computer suite studio, darkroom, silk screen preparation / technician room and staff office.

MMA_VanDyke_2010_2_095The Art Department offers a broad range of options within the GCSE in Art and Design. AS and A' Levels are also offered in Art and Design and Photography.

One of the highlights of Vandyke’s summer term is our annual summer exhibition. It is a lively and diverse exhibition showcasing the talents of students with a wide range of work on display in response to coursework and exam themes.  See our Galleries to see some of our art work.
